Submissions

Please note: This has been updated as of March 28, 2011!

Thoughtsmith is currently seeking poetry, prose, plays, articles, essays, critiques, rants, raves, photography, and digital art for ongoing publication.

We ask that you limit yourself to five (5) simultaneous submissions at any given time; we also ask that prose and essay/article pieces be limited to 4000 words.

Please submit each piece as an individual submission through our submission manager; while it is indeed easier to submit one group of pieces, it makes the voting process cumbersome for us, so we ask that you split them up (sorry!).

We welcome simultaneous submissions, but ask that you withdraw any piece selected for publication elsewhere as soon as it is accepted (we welcome your success, but ask that you abide by this as we wouldn’t want to double-publish something and slight the publication that got to the work first!).

With your submissions, please include a biography and/or cover letter (there is a place provided on the submissions form for these).

All works should be as close to publication-ready as possible.  While we’re willing to correct the occasional minor grammatical error, we’re not interested in heavy-duty copy editing.  Obviously, poetry is the exception to this; if your poem has non-standard grammar/styling, please note it in your cover letter so that it doesn’t affect our decision.

We are unable (unwilling?) to accommodate formatting other than bold, italics, and underlining when publishing works, so please submit your works in somewhat-standard formatting.  (Please note: any submissions received in ‘Comic Sans’ or ‘Papyrus’ will be deleted without consideration.)

Legal Mumbo-Jumbo:

By submitting to Thoughtsmith, you affirm that you are the author of any and all pieces submitted.  You also affirm that the pieces submitted have not been published elsewhere previously, regardless of medium.  Upon selection for publication, Thoughtsmith acquires first electronic publishing rights, and gains the right to publish the work in any electronic format.  After publication, all rights revert to the author.  Any work that is in violation of these guidelines can be removed from consideration without notice at any time.  All submissions guidelines are subject to change without notice.
