Please read our submission guidelines carefully

Thoughtsmith is continuously looking for creative work (poetry, prose, essays and articles, photography, digital art) for quarterly publication.

Each reading period, we accept up to five (5) simultaneous submissions from each submittor. For poetry, we recommend a submission of 3-5 poems. For prose, we ask that the piece be limited to roughly 6000 words (we’re a bit flexible on this). Artwork and photography should be free of watermarking and distinguishing marks (an artist’s signature on a scanned/photographed painting is fine).

We ask that you submit each piece as an individual submission through our submission manager. While we understand that it is easier to submit them as one file, it makes our particular selection process cumbersome, and we don’t want to miss out on publishing something we really like just because it got lost in the shuffle.

Simultaneous submissions are welcome, but ask that you withdraw your piece if it is accepted elsewhere.

With your submission, please include a short biographical blurb and/or cover letter. Please use the submission manager for your cover letter and biographical blurb; please do not include biographical information in the file attachment.

LEGAL MUMBO-JUMBO:

By submitting to Thoughtsmith, you affirm that you are the sole author of any and all work submitted. You also affirm that the pieces have not been published elsewhere, regardless of medium. Upon selection for publication, Thoughtsmith acquires first electronic publishing rights, and gains the right to publish the work in any electronic format. After publication, all rights revert to the author. We ask that any work published elsewhere in the future credit Thoughtsmith as the place of first publication.

Any work that violates these guidelines can be removed from consideration without notice at any time at the discretion of the Thoughtsmith staff. All submission guidelines are subject to change without notice.
